The leash by the door outlasts three collars, two harnesses, and one extended phase of eating through nylon.

9mm dry-treated dynamic climbing rope — the kind specced for load-bearing work at altitude — forms the core of this leash. The clip is 316 stainless steel: marine-grade, corrosion-resistant, cold to the touch in winter in the way that signals genuine metal. The clamps are rebuildable by design, not decorative, which means the leash is repairable rather than replaceable. It is constructed to be owned for a long time.

There is something quietly clarifying about an object built without a planned obsolescence. It hangs by the door and acquires the particular worn-in quality of things that work — the rope softening where it coils, the steel staying exactly as it was. It does not perform durability. It simply holds.

BEC has not yet discovered it is also technically rated for human climbing.
