Most grooming tools announce themselves. This one simply sits on the shelf and does not embarrass the room.
Natural wood — the specific variety unspecified, which is honest — forms the handle in a shape that settles into the palm without instruction. One side carries bristles for finishing and smoothing; the other, pins for working through coat and loosening what the week has deposited. The finish is unfussy. The weight is right.
It lives by the sink, or on the shelf near the lead hooks, or wherever grooming has quietly colonised a corner of the house. Using it takes two minutes and costs nothing in aesthetic suffering — which, for a grooming tool, is a reasonable ambition.
